Many of our students go on to gain employment in patient-facing clinical roles in the community pharmacy sector, hospitals, or emerging roles in general practice.

The strong science base to our integrated MPharm degree also supports career progression in research and drug development roles in the corporate and public pharmaceutical industry, and roles in academia. We have a strong careers programme to support this.

We are one of the only schools of pharmacy in South West England and there's currently a good demand for pharmacists in the region, so you'll be well placed when looking for graduate jobs.

In Year 4 of the course you’ll have the option to either undertake an extensive research project in the department or apply to go on a 12-week placement with an international partner organisation.

We have placement opportunities available in Australia, Brazil, Europe, New Zealand, and the US. With up to 30 placements available each year, there are many opportunities to live and work abroad as part of the course. Our specialist placements team offers dedicated support when you're looking for a placement and throughout your placement year.

Our pharmacy course is designed to give the future pharmacy workforce a strong understanding of the safe and effective use of medicines.

You'll learn how to manage and optimise patient’s medication in our pharmacy practice suite and there are a range of clinical teaching facilities, including consulting rooms where you can take part in role-playing encounters with patients or professional actors. You can also work with our SimMan 3G, a life-like robotic patient programmed to have a range of simulated medical conditions.

You'll spend time out on placement in each year of the course in a variety of settings, applying your knowledge to real patients and healthcare teams.

Most of our teaching staff are heavily engaged in research which means our courses are kept up-to-date and you'll benefit from discussions around the latest thinking in pharmacy and pharmacology. It's inspiring to be taught by someone who's an expert in their field.

You may also have the opportunity to take part in research alongside the teaching staff, gaining valuable real world experience.

We have a reputation for high-quality research targeted at improving healthcare outcomes, focusing especially on the challenges of dementia, arthritis and cancer.

Alongside our academics, you'll be taught by our strong team of teacher practitioners and practice educators who still work in practice. Their experience will keep the course up to date and they will be able to give you career advice based on the real world. They teach you at the university and also run teaching sessions in their practice bases throughout your course.

We have strong links with key employers, including the local NHS Trusts in Bath, Bristol and Swindon and also with many of the community pharmacy employers including Boots and Day Lewis.

After your pre-registration year, you are able to return to the University to complete one of our postgraduate diplomas or prescribing qualifications.
