The Faculty of Science also presents awards to exceptional staff in recognition of their teaching contribution, and you can nominate technical staff for the Faculty Learning Support Award.

Pharmacy Technician of the Year

The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK present The Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award. This acknowledges an outstanding Pharmacy Technician who has shown a significant contribution over the past 12 months and symbolises the best of their profession.

Technical Support in Psychological Research & Teaching Awards

This annual award recognises the valuable role that technicians play in supporting research within their psychology departments. It is offered by the British Psychological Society (BPS) in collaboration with the Association for Technical Staff in Psychology (ATSiP).

Institute of Physics (IOP) Technician Award

The IOP Technician Award highlights the diverse role of technicians in education, research and industry. The winner receives a prize of £1,000, a trophy and a certificate presented at the IOP annual awards dinner.

Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) Jean Venables Medal

This Jean Venables Medal promotes the role of newly qualified engineering technicians. The winner receives £500 and is presented with the Jean Venables Medal at ICE's Annual Awards Ceremony.

Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET) Apprentice and Technician of the Year Awards

This award is to recognise individuals who stand out from their peers and have made noteworthy achievements in their area of expertise.

HE Bioscience Technician of the Year Award

The Royal Society of Biology's Higher Education Bioscience Technician of the Year Award seeks to recognise the superb work of technical staff, which underpins the bioscience research and teaching at all levels in universities across the UK and Ireland.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Higher Education Technical Excellence Award

The Higher Education Technical Excellence Award is for individuals or teams demonstrating exceptional contributions to technical support within the HE sector. The winner receives £2000, a medal and a certificate.

Apprentice of the Year Award

The Semta Skills Awards include an award for the best apprentice from a business of over 250 people. They should be an example of the opportunities apprenticeships can open and demonstrate excellent manufacturing and/or engineering skills, that have a real impact on their employer’s business.


National awards for technicians

There are two national awards for technicians from any discipline.


Papin Prizes

The Papin Prizes are awarded every two years, next in 2021, and recognise the skills, talent and experience of technicians in higher education and research, across the UK and Ireland.

Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Outstanding Technician of the Year

This award will be given to an individual whose exceptional practical skills, commitment and vision have enabled the highest quality teaching, research or knowledge transfer. It is open to technicians working in any discipline in UK universities and research institutes.
