EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (AAPS) funding

New doctoral students in engineering, management, humanities and science may be eligible for funding from AAPS.

Funding for doctoral students

If you are applying to study engineering, management, humanities and science, you may be eligible for funding from the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training.


Applications are invited from candidates who have, or who expect to obtain, a first or upper second class Bachelor’s honours degree or international equivalent in the range of disciplines covered by this CDT. Candidates will be highly engaged, dynamic candidates who want to conduct their PhD in a unique and innovative training environment with a desire apply their research to shape the world around them.

Studentship value

Funding lasts for up to four years. This includes:

  • Home tuition fees
  • training support fund £1,000 per annum
  • maintenance stipend of £18,622 each year (2023/24 rate)

This award is open to all applicants (Home and International); however, in line with guidance from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the number of awards available to International students will be limited to 30% of the total.

Scheme opens: Applications are accepted from 1 October each year.

Application deadline: There will be monthly application submission deadlines between October and June in each academic year. Early application is recommended as places are competitive. Applications will only be considered if places are available.
