Bring your ideas. One might change the world.

A reputation for great research.

The quality of our staff and their dedication to research have helped us gain international recognition. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (2021), 56% of our submissions met the 4* standard (the highest possible). It classed 93% of our research as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Our faculty are known for the impact of their research. They publish in leading journals. But this impact is also felt outside of academia, creating change in policy and practice.

Through the Retailing and Contemporary Consumerism Research Lab we bring together collaborators from academia, industry and policy to generate practical and theoretical insights.

Research4Good

We are dedicated to ensuring our research has a positive impact on people’s lives. That’s why we launched Research4Good to change the way people do research.

Work with us. Bring your ideas. Together we can change the world.

An environment to thrive

Research is at the heart of everything we do.

Join our faculty and immerse yourself in our research culture. We've developed an atmosphere that allows our researchers to grow both professionally and personally. Examples of this include:

Research freedom

Our faculty members have the freedom to choose what they research. Whatever your expertise, we will support you as you push for change.

Incentive schemes and funding benefits

Our incentive schemes reward you with extra research money when you publish in leading journals and submit large grant applications.

We also have funds available for the creation of research with impact, and seed corn funds to help newer faculty to start exploring research questions.

We think that there should be no barriers to doing great research. So our conference fund, open to all faculty, can help cover costs for conferences worldwide.

Guest speakers

We regularly invite external leading experts to speak about their work. Our seminars are a great way to keep up with the latest thinking and build relationships with your peers.

Realise your potential

We want our staff to thrive. Our focus is on development.

Induction

All new faculty are invited to a School induction. We'll introduce the School to you and explore your career development and promotion opportunities. You’ll also learn about teaching expectations.

Mentoring scheme

We want everyone to feel supported and settled from the start. All new junior faculty members conducting research will be assigned two mentors, one in teaching and one in research. Teaching fellows new to the School will be given a mentor in teaching. Mentors are your first point of contact for help and advice.

Support and training

You can also receive research-related training. We provide, among other things, writing workshops and help with making grant applications. And you’ll also have access to training opportunities through the University's Centre for Learning and Teaching.

Love where you work

Your job satisfaction is important to us.
