Information about the accessibility of our accommodation for campus users with disabilities and mobility issues.

Car parking and approach

On-site car parking is available across the campus with 24-hour monitored CCTV in operation.

Parking is available near all accommodation buildings. All car parks provide clearly identified accessible parking bays.

Guests can buy a parking permit for the duration of their stay at a discounted rate. Please contact the West Accommodation Centre to arrange this.

Traffic-calming measures, including speed detection signage, are strategically situated across the campus.

There is a drop-off point outside the East Accommodation Centre and the West Accommodation Centre.

West Accommodation Centre

The approach leading up to the entrance is level.

The reception area is level.

East Accommodation Centre

The approach leading up to the entrance is level. The reception area is accessed by an automated sliding door leading directly into a clear and level reception area which has a carpeted seating area with stone-finished walkways.

The entrance has a well-lit canopy over the top.

The reception area has induction loops.

Accessible student accommodation

If you have a disability or diagnosed medical condition you can live in one of the wheelchair accessible or en-suite bedrooms in our on-campus accommodation.

We have accessible accommodation in:

We provide the following types of accommodation:

  • standard – a flat with shared bathroom facilities
  • en suite – a room with its own bathroom facilities
  • wheelchair accessible – this can be standard or en suite
  • studio – a self-contained flat with en-suite bathroom and kitchenette

We have accommodation suitable for wheelchair users and those needing extra space for special equipment. It may also be possible to customise some rooms to suit specific needs.

Polden Court accommodation

Accessible bedrooms complete with en-suite facilities are available. Our en-suite facilities include level-entry showers complete with shower seats.

All toilets meet the Equality Act 2010 standards and have emergency pull chords linked to an audible alarm.

Vibrating pillows and under-pillow pads are available on request. Please request these when making your room booking.

We can provide a list of local hire services for hoists and bed blocks.

All televisions have subtitle options.

Woodland Court accommodation

Accessible bedrooms complete with en-suite facilities are available. Our en-suite facilities include level-entry showers complete with shower seats.

All toilets meet the Equality Act 2010 standards and have emergency pull chords linked to an alarm system.

Vibrating pillows and under-pillow pads are available on request. Please request these when making your room booking.

We can provide a list of local hire services for hoists and bed blocks.

Public areas

If you are in a non-ground floor room in Woodland Court, the lifts are fitted with:

  • reversing mirrors
  • a Braille control panel linked to a 24-hour emergency call-out service
  • audible floor confirmation
  • internal handrails (920mm high).

All wayfinding signage complies with current requirements.

All doors, entrances and corridors are suitable for wheelchair users and individuals using mobility aids such as zimmer frames as well as those using pushchairs.

All corridors are well lit and level throughout.

Accessible toilets are available in many locations on campus.

External lighting is strategically located to ensure good visibility all times.

Restaurant, bars and coffee shops

All venues can accommodate wheelchair users, individuals using mobility aids such as zimmer frames as well as those using pushchairs.

We can accommodate special dietary requirements – please speak to a member of the reservations team when making your booking.

Emergency evacuation procedures

Discuss individual requirements at the point of booking your room so that we can compile a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan if required.

If you are in a non-ground floor rooms, emergency lifts and refuge points are available.

All staff including our security teams have received training on how to manage the evacuation of our buildings in the event of an emergency.

All exit points lead out onto a level surface.

Additional information

The University of Bath has an award-winning Security team patrolling the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Buses linking the University to Bath to the city centre run frequently from the campus bus terminal.
