Professor Angus Buchanan was a member of staff at the University of Bath from 1960 until his retirement in 1995. He lectured in modern history specialising in the history of technology and industrial archaeology. He was an authority on Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) and was actively involved with the Bristol Industrial Archaeology Society, the Association for Industrial Archaeology, the National Trust, the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England and the International Committee for the History of Technology.

Dr Brenda Buchanan began her career as a teacher. She was awarded her PhD in 1992 and went on to become an authority on the technology and economic history of gunpowder production. She was a founding member of the History of Bath Research Group and acted as editor of 'Bath History' from 1994 to 2005.
