How we collect personal data

BSW Research Hub receives from:

• Partner organisations when they participate in a research study or opt to become member of the BSW Research Hub consortium.
• The health research community when a research passport application is submitted.
• Members of the public when they register to become a member of the PARTICIPATE Network.

How we use personal data

The personal data provided is only used to:

• Register and approve research studies being conducted by partner organisations within BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG area.
• Update partner organisations, within the BSW Research Hub consortium, on the latest health research news, regulatory information and relevant health research events.
• Process and issue Letters of Access and Honorary Research Contracts for the health research community.
• Inform the Participate Network about health research related events and invite PN members to attend relevant Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) meetings.

Disclosure of personal data

We do not disclose your personal data to anyone, unless we have asked your permission to do so.

Your consent

By providing us with your personal data, including sensitive personal data, such as data on your health, you consent to the collection and use of any data you provide in accordance with the above purposes and this Privacy Notice.

Commitment to personal data security and storage

We will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that personal data provided is handled in a secure and confidential manner. When the data is no longer needed it will be destroyed.

We have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard the personal data we collect in order to prevent unauthorised access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of data.

Your rights

We will only collect the data that we need to carry out the purposes you have contacted us for, or given us permission to use it for. Subsequently, at any time you can:

• Gain access to the personal data which BSW Research Hub holds about you.
• Have your personal data rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete
• Restrict the processing of your personal data, for example, ask us not to contact you
• Object to the processing of your data for specific purposes such as communications
• Ask for the transfer of your data electronically to a third party – this could be yourself (known as data portability)
• Have your personal data removed (known as Erasure or the ‘right to be forgotten’)
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

• We follow the data protection principles specified in the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Data Protection Bill 2017. Personal data is processed in accordance with these principles.
