Online Social Activities

Organise a doctoral online social event for other students and receive up to £50 in a voucher as a thank you from the Doctoral College.

Factsheet

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to alter the way we interact with one another. Staying connected is much harder as our previous face-to-face interaction has greatly reduced. There is a growing need to continue to connect in a virtual capacity with one another to stay in touch, promote positive wellbeing and feel part of a community.

The opportunity

We're looking for enthusiastic students who are willing to organise a one-off online social activity that will benefit you and other doctoral students. You will need to organise all aspects of the event, but you will be supported along the way by the Doctoral College.

The activity will not only provide a social platform for yourself and others, it's also a great opportunity for you to develop and evidence transferable skills as part of your professional development, through putting together a proposal, and planning and delivering an event.

What can you organise?

We're open to ideas and we would love for individuals to organise a variety of different activities. Try to think of activities that not only you would find interesting, but others would enjoy. Some examples include:

  • online quizzes
  • online coffee breaks
  • online networking sessions
  • online games session
  • online book club

Particular requirements

We are fairly open to ideas but please note the following requirements:

  • the event should be hosted on either MS Teams or Zoom
  • the event should be open to all doctoral students and thus be cross-discipline

Support

While you will organise and manage all aspects of your chosen activity, we recognise that you might need some support along the way. We can help with:

  • giving feedback on your initial proposal
  • providing advice on the online platforms you can use and how to use them effectively, e.g. MS Teams or Zoom
  • providing advice about managing event bookings
  • promotion of the event

Submitting an application

Please email doctoralengagement@bath.ac.uk with your initial idea. If we think it fits in the scope of the opportunity then we'll send you a short application to submit, which gives us a bit more information about your planned event.

Voucher

Depending on your event and the amount of preparation needed you will receive up to £50 as a voucher to thank you for your efforts. You will be able to request either an Amazon voucher or a One-4-All voucher.

You will receive the voucher upon completion of the event as well as a producing a short write-up to disseminate afterwards.
