Undergraduate offer terms and conditions 2012 to 2015

The standard terms and conditions of an offer of a place at Bath, representing the agreement between you and the University.

Terms And Conditions

Undergraduate applicants should read these terms and conditions before deciding to accept our offer of admission.

Standard terms and conditions of your offer

These terms and conditions represent an agreement between you and the University, should you decide to accept our offer of admission. It is your responsibility to read them and make sure you understand them. Please ask if anything is unclear.

  1. If you register with the University of Bath as a student, you will be required to agree to abide by the statutes, ordinances and regulations of the University of Bath for the time being in force.

  2. Your place will only be confirmed if you meet all the conditions of your offer or the University chooses to vary the conditions originally set. You must comply with all requests for information or documentation to support your application by the deadline set.

  3. When you apply you may be required to produce satisfactory evidence of your previous qualifications (including, English language qualifications such as IELTS). If requested, this will mean that you must provide the Admissions Office with a clear and legible copy or scan of the original document(s). If you successfully meet the conditions of your offer you may be asked to produce the original documents or a copy that has been authenticated by the issuing organisation, English language body, or a registered notary, when you come to register. The University reserves the right to require original documents only.

  4. If you require a visa to study in the UK, you must comply, by the deadlines set, with all requests for information and documentation to support the issue, by the University, of a Certificate of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). It is your responsibility to ensure that you have sufficient financial resources to meet Home Office requirements but the University may request evidence of this before agreeing to issue a CAS. The University reserves the right to refuse to issue a CAS when it is not satisfied that your visa application will be successful.

  5. Your offer of a place and any subsequent invitation to register are made on the basis that the information supplied in your application papers is true and complete, and that you hold the qualifications that you claim to hold. The offer and subsequent registration will be deemed null and void if you are found at any time to have misrepresented any aspect of your circumstances.

  6. If you receive a criminal conviction after an offer is made or a change in your circumstances means that you no longer meet your programme’s specific requirements, the University reserves the right to withdraw the offer of a place.

  7. If you have particular support needs or disabilities which may affect your ability to undertake all or part of your programme of study, you are advised to disclose these and discuss them in full with the Admissions Office and relevant academic department. The University will endeavour to make all reasonable adjustments. The University may also withdraw or defer your place if, on medical advice, it is judged that you are not fit to attend university and start your studies.

  8. The information provided in your application papers will be retained by the University of Bath, used for the purpose of processing your registration and added to your student record after you have registered. Any sensitive data (such as medical information or details of any criminal convictions) will be handled and stored only in accordance with the relevant data protection principles and legislation. It may be necessary to share some such information with a limited number of named University staff.

  9. The University will charge the appropriate tuition fee as advertised for your programme of study. How and when your fees are paid will depend on whether you take out a tuition fee loan (UK and EU students only) or whether you or a sponsor pays the fee. The University reserves the right to operate different charging policies for differently-funded students. If, for any reason, you leave your studies early, or suspend, you will need to check how this affects your liability for fees.

  10. If you or a sponsor are paying for your tuition, the fee is payable annually in advance. At registration you will be asked either to pay the tuition fee or to provide a satisfactory written undertaking from your sponsor (including the name and address of the person to whom invoices should be addressed) that your fees will be paid. You may choose to pay them in two instalments: a small charge will be made for this facility. The University reserves the right to refuse this concession to students with a poor payment record. If your sponsor fails to pay your tuition fees, you will become personally liable for the costs. The University may revoke your access to library and computing facilities in the event that any agreed payments are not made by the due date.

  11. If you are awarded any form of financial assistance from the University (such as a fee waiver, bursary or scholarship) you will be provided with detailed terms and conditions for this support. It is your responsibility to read these before accepting any award.

  12. When you accept our offer of a place, you accept our decision in relation to your home or overseas fee status. This decision is made on the basis of the available evidence at the time. Once you have registered decisions can only be changed in certain specific and exceptional cases. If you think our decision is incorrect, you must query this prior to registration.

  13. You are responsible for your own living expenses, and you must ensure that you have access to the necessary funding or Student Loan before the start of your programme of study.

  14. The University of Bath undertakes to make every reasonable effort to provide the teaching and academic facilities necessary for your programme of study. Occasionally it may be necessary to change substantial components of a programme, or to withdraw it. In these rare cases the University will notify you as soon as possible and will either offer you another programme at Bath for which you are appropriately qualified, or negotiate on your behalf for another UCAS choice.

  15. The information provided to you prior to this offer and, should you accept it, prior to your arrival at the University is for your guidance only. Whilst we endeavour to ensure their accuracy, the University cannot be held responsible for any errors, omissions, or variations from the details set out in the Prospectus, Pocket Prospectus, University of Bath website, Key Information Sets, or any other publicity or information source.

  16. Neither you nor the University shall be liable for inability or delay in performing any of your or their obligations if caused by circumstances beyond your or their reasonable control including, but not limited to, industrial action, strikes, lockouts, fire, flood, earthquake, bad weather conditions, explosion, war, terrorist attack, technical failure, or power failure.

  17. No term of the agreement between you and the University of Bath is enforceable under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 by any person who is not a party to the agreement

  18. The agreement between you and the University of Bath is governed by English law and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
