Daniel provides technical support to MC² and the users of the Facility.

Role

Working together with Christian in a job share arrangement, Daniel provides general technical support to MC², looking after the day to day running of our laboratories. His specific responsibilities include liquid nitrogen fills of the NMR spectrometers and single crystal x-ray diffraction systems, and looking after the Calpendo booking system. Career

After many years of working in IT related positions, Daniel embarked on a scientific career by starting a degree in Chemistry in 2003. Since then, he has worked both as a teacher and researcher. In his teaching roles he has participated in social programs to teach chemistry within rural and poor communities in Brazil. As a researcher his knowledge expanded to include design, synthesis and characterization of new materials and inorganic/organic compounds for special applications.

Although he does not work directly in IT anymore, Daniel is still interested in computer related subjects such as graphical design for science communication. Daniel speaks English and Portuguese, and is also learning Spanish.

Education

Daniel has a degree in Chemistry specialising in the design of new materials for photonic applications from the São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil. He followed on from this with a PhD in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry on the subject of Inorganic/Organic complexes for biological applications, at the São Paulo State University in 2014, and as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Nottingham in 2015.
