Vicky Hill Placements Manager (Engineering & Design)

Vicky works within a team that collaborates with industrial partners to ensure effective recruitment into placements.

Role

Vicky’s role is to ensure the right student is matched with the right company so that the placement is mutually beneficial for both the student and the employer.

To do this the team prepare the students for the transition to the workplace and ensure they are reaching their full potential by providing employability workshops, one-one guidance and remaining in contact with the students and their supervisors throughout the placement year. Academic colleagues will also visit the students on placement and guide them in writing a Professional Development Review to develop their employability skills and pave the way for Chartership.

The Engineering & Design Placements team support employers in raising their profile on campus by organising presentations, skills sessions and departmental visits. They have many long-term partnerships and are actively looking to gain more.

Career

Vicky has been at the University since 2011 and before making a move to the Faculty of Engineering & Design as a Placements Manager, she was a Placements Officer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She also took a secondment to be a Stewardship Manager in the department of Development and Alumni Relations.

Before joining the University, Vicky started her career in teaching (in both the UK and China) and was also the Centre Director for the private tuition company, Explore Learning. She lead the centre to meet marketing and sales targets and was heavily involved in recruitment for the company’s graduate scheme.

Education

Vicky graduated in 2004 with a 2:1 in Modern Languages and European Studies (French and German) from the University of Bath. Following this, she took a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Oxford.
