Kaspar Bumke Research Support Technician

Kaspar provides technical support, advice and guidance to the Open Instrumentation Group on electronics, 3D printing and assembly of new scientific instruments.

Role

As the sole technician for the Open Instrumentation Group Kaspar supports the team on a variety of technical challenges ranging from mechanical engineering, electronics to software development. The Open Instrumentation Group is part of the Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials and focused on open-source hardware and software for scientific instrumentation. The main area of focus is optics, microscopy, and micropositioning.

Career

Trained as an electronic engineer Kaspar worked for almost a decade with hardware startups designing circuits and developing software for bringing mass-manufactured consumer products to market.
