Dr Irene Henning Technology Transfer Manager

Irene is responsible for commercialising research outcomes for the University and industry collaborators.

Role

Irene will work with you to commercialise your research through:

  • identifying the commercial value of your research
  • protecting the intellectual property of your research
  • working with industry to commercialise your research
  • negotiating with licensees, investors and partners

Irene supports research commercialisation for engineering and the physical sciences at the University.

Career

Irene has an interdisciplinary research background across Life sciences and Engineering. She gained early experience working on an industrially funded research project at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology, Stuttgart (Germany).

Later at the University of Nottingham, she focussed on advancing a state-of-the-art micro 3D printing technique for biological applications. Irene then moved on to a role as Skills and Innovation manager at UKRI-BBSRC, where she supported funding activities driving research commercialisation and helped develop strategies improving access to entrepreneurial education for researchers.

Education

Irene holds a BSc and MSc in Biotechnology and a PhD from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham, investigating two-photon polymerization of alginate hydrogels for applications in cell culture.
