Calum Mercer University Treasurer

The Treasurer acts as one of three senior lay members of the University Council and maintains an overview of the University finances.

Role

Calum Mercer was appointed as Treasurer on 1 February 2022 for a renewable three-year term. As Treasurer, Calum will act as one of three senior non-executive members of the University Council. He will chair the Finance Committee and Investment Sub-Committee, and maintain an overview of the University finances.

Career

Calum has extensive experience in both executive and non-executive roles in major organisations in a diverse range of sectors including health and social care, housing, education, infrastructure and utilities. He has raised over £4 billion in finance from the bank and capital markets.

He is currently Group Finance Director at the Institute of Civil Engineering, and a non-executive board member at the Housing and Finance Institute. Previous non-executive roles held have included Finance and Operations Director at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, non-executive board member and chair of audit and risk committees at the Legal Aid Agency and Solent NHS Trust; Dimensions, the largest not-for-profit organisation supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Grainger Trust, a for-profit provider of affordable housing.

As Treasurer, Calum is Chair of Finance Committee and Investment Sub-Committee.
