Revd David Pattie URC Chaplain

Supporting all students and staff

Role

David is married to Helen who is also a minister. It is a very holy household! David and Helen have two sons – one a teacher and the other a theoretical physicist. His extramural interests include travel, reading and wine tasting.

The University of Bath is David’s second stint as a University chaplain, having previously served in the same capacity at his alma mater.

Career

David is a member of a team ministry serving three churches in the City of Bath. He entered the world of work as a teacher of history. He was also a housemaster in an independent boarding school.

Responding to the ‘call’, David trained for ordination in London and entered full-time ministry. His first ten years of ministry were spent planting churches.

David has enjoyed a ministry of contrasts, serving in pastorates from the Western Highlands and Islands to post-industrial Glasgow and the City of Bath.

He has ministered in sub-Saharan Africa. For almost two decades he coordinated, and then led, a mission agency offering education and training in the Republic of Zambia. He has been extensively involved in HIV/Aids prevention work in Africa.

Education

David studied at the Universities of Stirling, Dundee and Cambridge.
