Since 2008 the work to create processes and structures that enable researchers to carry out meaningful public engagement with their research has focused on UK universities and research centres. With funding from the Science and Technology Facilities Council, Engaged@NAM2021 was a project led by the University of Bath’s Public Engagement Unit to test if the approaches and lessons learned from this work could be applied in other settings where academic culture plays out, specifically an academic conference.
