Council Appeals Committee

We hear appeals from students who have been expelled from the University.

We are a committee of Council, responsible for hearing appeals from students who have been expelled from the University. This is the final stage of the University’s internal disciplinary and fitness to study processes.

For more information on student discipline and appeals, please see Student Regulation 8 and Statute 19. For more information on the fitness to study process, please see Student Regulation Appendix 2.

Find out the full responsibilities in our Terms of Reference.

Committee membership

All lay members and Senate members of Council other than the Vice-Chancellor are members of the Council Appeals Committee by default. A quorum of three members is convened for each appeal hearing: this must comprise at least one lay member of Council and one Senate member of Council on the Committee for each hearing. No Council member who has any knowledge of either the case in question of or the individuals involved is eligible to hear the appeal.
