HEMPSEC: pre-fabricated, pre-dried panelised system of hemp-lime construction
The HEMPSEC Project is aimed at expanding the market for a pre-fabricated, pre-dried, panelised system of hemp-lime construction. It assures high quality construction, rapid on-site erection, optimal hygrothermal performance from day one and results in energy and resource efficient buildings.
The 36 month-long work programme will refine product and manufacturing protocols, produce data for certification and marketing, warranty, insurance cover and availability of finance. The project includes the development of markets in France and Spain.
The research programme will construct, instrument, monitor and analyse the environmental performance of a number of small experimental buildings located at the newly created Building Research Park at Wroughton. Parallel programmes will be running in Spain and France. A comparative analysis of performance will be undertaken against the 'standard', and alternative building materials and an environmental model will be developed.
The success of the project will result in wider adoption of hemp-lime construction in the EU.

HempCell house construction

- Brick façade and thatch roof
- Hempcell panel construction
- Passivhaus performance
- CSH level 4.
