Female entrepreneur Shivani Nirula will study The Bath MBA after being awarded an Indian Scholarship.

The University of Bath created the scholarship as part of the the 50th anniversary external website 50th celebrations with the aim of strengthening ties with India.

Shivani will study at Bath in 2017/18, with the scholarship covering her tuition fees.

A natural approach to entrepreneurship

Shivani is the founder of yoga and lounge fashionwear brand, ESKA external website. In 2016, the Indian government selected one of her designs as the official yoga t-shirt for India's International Day of Yoga.

During her undergraduate degree at National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, Shivani developed an interest in sustainable fashion. This led to her working with eco-textile company Creative Bee for her graduation project. She set up and launched Creative Bee's retail branch in New Delhi after this.

During this time, and while attending yoga classes, Shivani spotted a gap in the yoga wear market. Most high street labels were using synthetic fabrics, uncomfortable in the Indian climate.

After six months of research, she launched ESKA, offering skin-friendly yoga wear options made using natural fabrics.

Since the launch, the company has grown and now retails across India. Shivani and her brand have featured in publications including Forbes, Women's Health and Elle.

The Bath MBA and Shivani's brand

Shivani applied to Bath to further her knowledge and learn in an international environment to develop the skills to grow her business.

She said:

'Being a first generation woman entrepreneur from India, it would be a delight to share my unique experiences with my international peers, and more importantly, learn from their diverse experiences.

'I am committed to building a company that is ethical and socially responsible. This commitment aligns with the ethos of The Bath MBA. Its excellent reputation and rich cultural history along with its focus on entrepreneurship; business ethics and cross-cultural learning contributed to my decision to apply for the MBA program at Bath.'
