Future of the USS - Employers Pensions Forum Briefing

A message to all members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)

We have recently received a briefing pack from the Employers Pensions Forum, which explains the background to the current funding position of pension schemes in the higher education sector.

The briefing explains why changes will be necessary to ensure the sustainability of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) which, as you are doubtless aware, is one of the many final salary schemes that are being affected by the increasing longevity of its members.

Although there are currently no detailed proposals for consideration, the Employers Pensions Forum sets out the rationale for change and the sort of action that might be necessary to safeguard the future of the pension scheme.

We are passing this information to you at the earliest opportunity and we will continue to keep you briefed as further updates become available.

The briefing material from the Employers Pensions Forum can be accessed online.

The Employers Pensions Forum was established by UUK, UCEA and GuildHE to consider the development of a pension strategy for the HE sector.
