The Vice-Chancellor’s Research Day is a showcase and celebration of research being carried out by early career academics across the University.
It provides an excellent opportunity for people to get together and discuss their work across departments and disciplines.
The first event took place on Wednesday 3 February, having been postponed from earlier in the year by the snow.
There were 11 short presentations on a diverse range of topics, from stainless steel as a structural material, to public/private partnerships in India, and including for example computer simulation of facial movements, uses of tomographic imaging, and ways to tackle obesity.
Professor Glynis Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor, thanked both the speakers and the audience for an enjoyable and interesting event. She said: “The range and breadth of excellent research across the University is impressive.
“Early career academics are very important members of our research community and this event shows why – this is research at the forefront of knowledge.”

She also pointed to the significant engagement with international inter-institutional networks and to the way in which all the speakers were, in various different ways, working to enhance the impact of their research.
The multi-disciplinary nature of much of the research was very apparent, and hopefully new links and new research projects – as well as new friendships – will result.
