The University has introduced enhanced attendance monitoring procedures. These apply from 1 September 2012 for all students who attend the campus for the majority of their teaching/study and those full-time students who are studying/working away whilst on placement/study abroad.
The procedures have been put in place to meet internal and external regulatory requirements, including those set by the UK Border Agency for international students and by the Student Loans Company for UK students.
Wherever possible, existing sources of data are being used.
Staff who are due to provide information on points of contact are being advised of this by their Faculty/ School. Those supervising postgraduate research students need to indicate each time that they have had a supervision session with a student.
Staff are asked to ensure that details are provided promptly to firstname.lastname@example.org. A more IT-based solution will emerge in the coming months.
A new Attendance Monitoring website contains our policy and advice to staff and students. All students are being emailed to make them aware of the policy.
It becomes especially important that we comply with these and other requirements set by the UKBA in relation to international students in view of the potential sanctions (as will have been seen in the media in relation to London Metropolitan University).
