Power Loss

The Campus experienced the loss of all electrical power for a period of approximately 1 minute shortly after 13.30hrs on Thursday 6 December 2012.

This was caused by the external power provider (Western Power) carrying out high voltage switching within their external sub-station in Dorchester Street.

The loss of power was completely outside the University’s control. We are awaiting Western Power’s full report.

The incident made it necessary to reboot and reconfigure the University’s telephone system. This resulted in the loss of some phones for 30 minutes or more. An IT network switch in 9W has also failed. This was replaced overnight.

Though the power loss was very inconvenient for all concerned, we are always subject to external influences on our infrastructure. Western Power are not liable for any compensation claims for this type of incident.
