Bath ranked highest in South West in Guardian University Guide

In the Guardian University Guide 2017 Bath is placed 10th out of 119 UK universities and is the highest ranked university in the South West.

A number of individual subject areas performed well with seven subjects ranked in the top five nationwide whilst 11 ranked in the top ten, including:

  • Psychology, ranked second
  • Architecture; Business, Management and Marketing; and Sociology, all ranked third
  • Social Work, ranked fourth
  • Mechanical engineering and Accounting & Finance, both ranked fifth
  • Chemical Engineering and Electronic & Electrical Engineering, both ranked seventh
  • Social policy and administration, ranked ninth
  • Biosciences, ranked 10th

The guide is based on a variety of criteria including; student satisfaction with courses, teaching and feedback, student to staff ratio, spend per student, average entry tariff, a value added score comparing degree results to entry requirements, and whether graduates were in graduate jobs or further training within six months of graduation.
