We're 50 on 25 Oct - party like it’s 1966

From 12 noon to 4pm next Tuesday 25 October, join your colleagues on The Parade to celebrate our 50th birthday.

The Parade will be packed with activities.

You just know our Uni band is going to have the X Factor. With members drawn from Engineering, Health and Science, they’ll be lighting up the main stage, so come and show your appreciation.

According to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, there’s a knack to flying - learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Do you have it? Find out by braving the zip wire outside The Chancellors’ Building. If this fills you with dread, how about heading up the climbing wall close by?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to dance down the Parade? Join Jamma de Samba at Wessex House at noon to be in at the start and see the Students’ Union societies do ‘Strictly’ with ballroom and Latin. It could be a 10 from Len!

A quick question for you: “What Grade 1 listed gateway between countries is celebrating its 50th anniversary?” If you knew it was the Severn Bridge - invite some colleagues, form a team and enter the Pub Quiz.

Another way to be part of the day is to sign up to be part of the Big 50. We’re coming together to form a huge 50 by the lake to be photographed for posterity. Sign up now to be a part of the staff and student community photo at 1.45pm. The first 150 people there on the day also get a free 50th t-shirt.

Please be aware, we will be capturing the day by aerial photography, including a drone.

And remember, birthdays are a perfect excuse to eat more cake - so come and enjoy the results of some fine 50th baking.

We’ll only turn 50 once, so take some time out and enjoy it.
