University to close at 1pm today (Thurs)

In view of deteriorating weather conditions, the University of Bath is closing at 1pm today (Thursday 1 March 2018).

As those on campus will know, there has been light snow on campus this morning and this is forecast to deteriorate this afternoon, with a red weather warning in place for South West England from 3pm.  Key operational staff will already know whether they are required or not. All other staff are free to leave at 1pm.

All students have been told that unless otherwise advised, the last lectures today will be those due to finish at 1.05pm.

The Library, Virgil Building and Carpenter House will remain open on card access for students to use the study spaces.  The Sports Training Village will be closing at 1.30pm.

4W café will remain open until 5.30pm today.  Other catering outlets and Fresh will close at 2pm.

All access controlled doors will change to card-only access from 14:00 this afternoon.

A further announcement will be posted tomorrow morning by 7.30am about whether the campus will re-open tomorrow.

Staff who are able to work from home are asked to do so.

Please read the University’s:

Take care when walking around campus as thoroughfares and stairways can become slippery even with gritting if snow settles or thaws and refreezes.  Health and Safety advice is:

  • Walk – don’t run. Wear non-slip footwear. Allow more time for your journey, just as you would if driving
  • Try to leave hands free to aid balance and protect against falls
  • Stick to footpaths and avoid steep banks and inclines
  • Take care when walking or cycling up and down hills.

On no account attempt to walk on areas of frozen water, including the lake, which is extremely hazardous.
