Award winning Professional Services team

Congratulations to members of our Professional Services team, who received a prestigious AUA Team of the Year Award in recognition of their work.

Bath AUA advocates have worked tirelessly over the last few years to support the professional development of their wide-ranging and diverse membership. From organising ‘meet the Director’ events to facilitate engagement with both institutional and HE sector-wide strategy, to delivering skills sessions, sharing the knowledge and expertise of members, the Bath branch has offered a nurturing and supportive environment to facilitate the continuing professional development of its members.  This has culminated in a drive to increase Accredited Member and Fellowship status, which resulted in 6 successful applications and furthermore, drew praise from the reviewers for their quality.

On presenting the award, Kathy Fowler (AUA Chair) said: Making connections and helping people work together is what the AUA does best. In the Networks Team award the AUA wants to recognise the teams of network volunteers who work together to get you connected.  Our 2018 winners were the University of Bath Advocate team, whose nomination impressed the judging panel, due to the innovative division of labour across the advocates, the wide range of professional development opportunities and services offered and the resulting excellent rise in membership numbers. The judges were particularly impressed by the support the branch has offered members through the process of achieving Accreditation and Fellowship of the AUA. Congratulations to all who were involved!’

Ann-Marie Hartland, Loretta Gibson and Sally Lewis were formally presented with the award at the AUA Conference Gala Dinner in Manchester on Monday 26th March.  On receiving the award, Ann-Marie and Loretta said: "In our roles we work extremely hard to support and develop our members and are, therefore, very proud to have received this award.  The AUA enjoys a very proactive and engaged presence at the University of Bath, which is thanks to the team of AUA Advocates and Members who are passionate about embedding AUA principles in their everyday working practices, developing themselves and their careers, sharing best practice and encouraging others to do the same.’]

The AUA is open to all professional services staff, irrespective of their area of expertise.  For more information about the AUA, take a look at the national AUA pages:; the Bath AUA blog: or email  Our next Bath AUA events include a talk from Andrew McLaughlin, Chief Executive of the Students’ Union on Wednesday 18th April (open to all) and ‘career speed networking’ on Wednesday May 2nd (members only), where senior members of staff will share their knowledge and expertise with AUA members on how to enhance their professional development and progress their career.
