Industrial Action: Message from PVC Learning and Teaching, 16 April

Dear Students,

I am writing to all students to provide an update regarding the industrial action. We are pleased to inform you that following a ballot of its members, UCU has suspended further industrial action and is establishing a Joint Expert Panel with UUK to examine the USS 2017 valuation.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience during what I know has been a difficult time for students and staff.

For those of you who have missed classes, this clarity will help us to continue getting back to normal, or as close as we can manage. We are gathering information in order to identify the precise impact of the strike on all units and programmes and to give you the right opportunities to demonstrate your achievements in your study at Bath. Our staff—in academic departments and in our student support services—have been making considerable efforts to provide appropriate content and learning support to those who have been affected. As you complete coursework and revise for examinations to the best of your abilities, please be assured that your assessments will be fair, appropriate, and rigorous.

I will continue to meet with student representatives to best understand your particular concerns, and I will make sure that communication to you all is clear and timely as we enter the assessment period.

Best wishes

Professor Peter Lambert
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching)
