Bath student reflects on One Young World Summit

Jenna Logeais, final year BSc Politics with International Relations student, reflects upon her experiences as the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences delegate at the high profile One Young World Summit which took place in South Africa in October.

At the very start of this new academic year, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science of the University of Bath gave me the immense privilege and opportunity to represent the Faculty, the University, and the United Kingdom at the second largest youth-dominated event after the Olympic Games. Along with 1300 young change-makers from 193 countries, I spent a few life-changing days in Johannesburg, South Africa, taking part in the One Young World Summit, an annual event which brings together enthusiastic and ambitious young leaders from around the world to meet, share ideas, and make practical and achievable commitments to bring positive change to our world.

With the help of our high-profile counsellors, which included Richard Branson, Anthony Jenkins, Ariana Huffington, and Jamie Oliver, to name but a few, we discussed, for three full days, the major global issues that the world faces today. This year we focused particularly on six key themes: sustainable development, human rights, global business, governance & leadership, education, and youth unemployment.
