Teen rock band from Dorset causes a Pop Video storm in La Réunion!

The mass excitement among secondary schools in the South West reached its highest peak on Wednesday 24th June when the winners of the MFL Pop Video Competition 2015 were announced in front of a large audience at the ‘Celebrating Success’ event organised by Routes into Languages (RiL) South West at the University of Bath.

The most sought-after ‘Online Viewers’ Award’, which is voted for by the general public, was won by 'Rock Sans Frontières', a rock band from Highcliffe School in Dorset, by a clear 1145 votes! The winning song 'Réunion en Réunion', about the beautiful French island located in the Indian Ocean received an unprecedented number of views - 9,808 - a third of which came from inhabitants of the island!

During the OVA voting, one of the band members shared the video with a Réunion Facebook page, which sparked a huge wave of support for the song and translated into the actual votes that helped the band win the renowned award!

Once again this proves that the world is a small place after all - and especially so if you can speak a foreign language!

The other two Pop Video winners were decided by the Routes into Languages jury panel, which had a very hard job to select one winner in each age group from an excellent pool of 34 submitted videos.

The first prize in the 15-18 Age Group went to 'Ils ont pris mon crayon' by Bruton School for Girls in Somerset. And ‘Paradise’ by St. Gregory’s Catholic College in Bath became the Pop Video winner in the 11-14 age group with its rap song in four languages.

This year’s Pop Video competition received 22,668 online views on YouTube from 132 countries in just four weeks! The total number of views on the RiL South West YouTube channel was 113,319 at the time of writing this article!
