Measure words
A measure word (such as 'piece' in 'one piece of paper') must be put between a number and a noun, as well as between 'this'/ 'that'/ 'every' and a noun. Different nouns use different measure words.
For people

位 is used to show respect. |

这位是陈远方先生。 This is Mr Yuanfang Chen. |

上海办事处一共有一百名员工。 There are 100 staff in the Shanghai branch. |
名 is used when counting the number of staff, students, etc. |

公司的员工总数为两百名左右。 The company has about 200 staff in total. |

For rooms and buildings
这里是一间会议室。 Here is a meeting room. |
间 is used for various kinds of rooms. |

请问王经理的办公室是哪间？ May I ask which one is Manager Wang's office? |

这栋办公楼是08年建的。 This office building was built in 2008. |
栋 and 幢 are used for various buildings |

For machines
这里是我们的影印室：有两台复印机、一台传真机，和三台打印机。 Here is our photocopying room: there are two photocopiers, one fax machine and three printers. |
台 is used for various kinds of machines and electrical appliances. |
