One character, two pronunciations

Some Chinese characters have a different pronunciation when forming different words. Try to recognise the two different pronunciations by typing in the correct pinyin version of each highlighted character. Indicate the tone by typing a letter + a number from 1 to 4 as needed: for example a + 1 = ā. You can hover your mouse over each single character in the left hand column to access both pronunciations and on the highlighted characters in the second column to access the English translations.
