A is more…than B


  • A… B + (/还要) adjective
  • A… B + adjective + complement

第二套房子第一套(更)大The second flat is (even) bigger than the first.

第二套房子第一套三十平方米The second flat is bigger than the first by thirty square metres.

这套房子装修得那套(还要)精致This flat is (even) better decorated than that one.

这套房子装修得那套精致多了This flat is a lot better decorated than that one.


A is as…as B


  • A… B + 一样 adjective

这套装修那套房子一样贵This flat is as expensive as that flat.

这套装修得那套一样精致This one is as elegantly decorated as that one.


A is not so…as B


  • A…不如/ B + (那么) adjective

第二套不如第三套(那么)宽敞The second one is not so spacious as the third one.

这套的家具配备那套(那么)齐全This one is not so well-furnished as that one.

这套房子装修得不如那套精致This one is not so well decorated as that one.


Please note that the comparative structure 'less....than' is literally expressed in Chinese by 'not so...as', as exemplified above, e.g. 'not so spacious as' (Chinese), 'less spacious than' (English).

  • A… + adjective

第一套房子最便宜The first flat is the cheapest.

第一套房子的面积最大The size of the second flat is the biggest.

第三套装修得最漂亮The third flat is the most beautifully decorated.
