Prepositional phrases
In Chinese, prepositional phrases such as the ones exemplified below meaning 'for you' and 'to me' always occur immediately before the verb and its object
我今天晚上下班后给你买一些吧。I'll buy you some after work tonight (lit. for you buy some).
你要不要我下班后给你送去?Would you prefer me to bring some to your place after work (lit. for you bring there)?
那里的医生会给你做透视。The doctors there will organise some X-rays for you (lit. for you organize some X-rays).
也许出去晒晒太阳对我有好处。Perhaps some sunshine will do me good (lit. to me do good)!
用这块毛巾止一下血。Stop the blood with this towel here (lit. with this towel stop the blood).
我会帮你向宋经理请假的。I will help you to ask for leave from Manager Song (lit. from Manager Song ask for leave).
