Giving commands
There are several ways to express a command, depending on the use of an adjective or a verb.
快一点!Quick! 高兴一点!Cheer up! 慢一点,慢一点。Slowly, slowly! |
你抬抬手臂。Raise your arms. 伸伸腿。Stretch your legs. 休息休息。Take a break. 检查检查。Have a check. Note that if the verb is actually a verbal phrase, i.e. composed of a verb and an object, e.g. 晒太阳 to go in the sunshine (lit. to have some sunbathing), then only the verb itself is repeated: 晒晒太阳 Go in the sunshine (lit. Have some sunbathing). |
止一下血。Stop the bleeding. 好好休息一下。Have a good rest. 补充一下维生素。Supplement your diet with some vitamins. |
看一看。Take/Have a look. 尝一尝。Have a taste. 走一走。Take a walk. |
看一下吧。Take/Have a look. 检查一下吧。Have a check. 好好休息一下吧。 Have a good rest. |
坐在这里。Sit here. 现在就去。Go there now. 帮我请个假。Ask for some leave for me. |
别担心。Don't worry. 别紧张。Don't be nervous. 不要一边下楼一边发短信。Don't send texts while using the stairs. |
