The Institute Coordinator plays a central role in enabling the day-to-day operations that support this growing research and innovation environment.</p><p>This role sits at the operational core of the Institute, ensuring that its activities run smoothly and efficiently. The Coordinator works closely with the Institute Manager, Directors, academic members, and professional services teams to deliver high-quality administrative, financial, and organisational support. From managing meetings and supporting financial processes to coordinating events and supporting recruitment and training activities, this role enables the Institute&rsquo;s programmes and partnerships to function effectively.</p><p>As part of a rapidly expanding Institute, this position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment supporting cutting-edge research and innovation.             <h2 id="isPasted">About the role</h2><p><strong id="isPasted">This role is eligible for the&nbsp;</strong><strong><a href="https://www.bath.ac.uk/jobs/display.aspx?id=1787&pid=0&tabId=218" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Campus Services New Starter Bonus* (&pound;1,000) and Campus Services Refer a Friend bonus.</a></strong>&nbsp;</p><p>This is an exciting position at an international University based in the City of Bath for any applicant that is looking to help and support students and staff within a Higher Education setting.</p><p>The role is strongly customer focused and you must demonstrate an ability to perform well within a team and also be able to demonstrate the use of initiative whilst working alone when dealing with emergencies, medical first aid response, alarm activations and many other reported incidents.</p><p>Together with a team of security staff, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe environment throughout both campus and City campus, including student accommodation and other University Buildings.</p><h2>About you</h2><p>You are required:</p><ul type="disc"><li>to have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with a diverse international community, providing understanding, support and outstanding customer service.</li><li>to have computer skills and be able to use various software packages, including custom software specific to the University and general software.             <h2 id="isPasted">About the role&nbsp;</h2><p id="isPasted">We are seeking a proactive, people-focused Assistant Security Operations Manager to support the leadership of a 24/7 security operation protecting students, staff, visitors, and the wider University estate.</p><p>Reporting to the Security Operations Manager, you will help lead operational teams to deliver a responsive, high-quality, and customer-focused security service.</p><p>This is a permanent, full-time role (36.5 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days), with participation in an on-call rota approximately one week in three. An additional allowance is payable for on-call duties.</p><p id="isPasted">Key Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Lead and supervise security teams and shift supervisors in delivering 24/7 operations</li><li>Manage daily operations including staffing, resource deployment, and rota coordination</li><li>Act as initial ground commander during emergencies and critical incidents, including escalation and liaison with emergency services</li><li>Oversee incident management systems, ensuring accurate reporting, investigations, and evidence handling (CCTV and statements)</li><li>Support safeguarding, welfare incidents, and major university events (e.g. Open Days, Graduations, protests)</li><li>Ensure compliance with University policies and statutory requirements, and support staff performance, training, and development</li><li>Act as deputy for the Security Operations Manager when required</li></ul><p id="isPasted">Special Conditions</p><ul><li>Occasional out-of-hours work due to incidents or major events</li><li>On-call duties approximately one week in three, with additional payment</li><li>Overtime for critical incidents or planned events compensated via TOIL</li></ul><h2 id="isPasted">About You</h2><p>You will:</p><ul><li>Have experience in security operations with supervisory responsibility</li><li>Be confident managing incidents in high-pressure environments</li><li>Be calm, decisive, and able to take control in emergencies</li><li>Have experience managing staff performance and operational issues</li><li>Be strong in communication, report writing, and incident documentation</li><li>Understand investigations, evidence handling, and basic legal principles</li><li>Be organised with strong planning and resource management skills</li><li>Build effective working relationships with staff and partners</li><li>Hold (or be willing to obtain) an SIA Door Supervisor licence</li><li>Hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to work on-call</li></ul><h2>Further information</h2><p>The appointment will be made subject to a Basic Disclosure &amp; Barring Service (DBS) check being obtained.</p><p>For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Mike Porter, Head of Security Services on <a data-fr-linked="true" href="mailto:mjp58@bath.ac.uk">mjp58@bath.ac.uk</a>.
