            <p>The <a href="https://www.bath.ac.uk/departments/department-of-mechanical-engineering/" target="_blank">Department of Mechanical Engineering</a> is seeking to recruit a fixed-term Lecturer for two years to undertake high-quality teaching.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>About the role</strong></p><p id="isPasted">We are seeking a candidate with a passion for teaching, particularly at the early undergraduate level.&nbsp;</p><p>The primary focus of this role is the delivery of high-quality education to Year 1 and Year 2 cohorts within the Department.&nbsp;</p><p>You will contribute to teaching across our MEng programmes in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, Manufacturing, and Design Engineering, helping to establish strong foundational knowledge and skills.</p><p>A key aspect of the role is to engage and motivate students, enabling them to apply core mathematical and computational techniques to real-world engineering challenges.&nbsp;</p><p>The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering mathematics and computational methods, the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to early-stage learners, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and student engagement.</p><p>You will be expected to teach and inspire students in core areas, including:</p><ul type="disc"><li>Mathematical fundamentals for engineering</li><li>Computational methods and numerical analysis</li><li>Modelling and simulation</li><li>Dynamic systems and control</li><li>Data analysis</li></ul><p>The use of industry-relevant tools is highly desirable, including:</p><ul type="disc"><li>Python / NumPy</li><li>MATLAB</li><li>Simulink / Simscape</li></ul><p>In addition to lecturing, you will:</p><ul type="disc"><li>Contribute to the supervision of Year 3 and Year 4 undergraduate students undertaking individual and group design or research projects</li><li>Support other teaching activities as required by the Head of Department</li></ul><p id="isPasted"><strong>About you</strong></p><p>You will have a PhD (or equivalent) and experience in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.&nbsp;</p><p>You will be a kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity.&nbsp;</p><p>You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging the Department to adapt and evolve.&nbsp;</p><p>By promoting a culture of openness and inclusivity, you will help create a dynamic and empowered Department that can thrive in today&#39;s changing world.&nbsp;</p><p id="isPasted"><strong>About us</strong></p><p>We are one of the leading Mechanical Engineering Departments in the UK and provide a progressive academic environment.&nbsp;</p><p>Our Mechanical Engineering degree is currently ranked 5<sup>th</sup> in the 2027 Complete University Guide League Tables, and 9<sup>th&nbsp;</sup> in the 2027 Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide.&nbsp;</p><p>The University of Bath has recently been ranked 125th in the QS World University Rankings 2026.</p><p>You will benefit from the supportive, collaborative and well-organised Department and Faculty system at the University.&nbsp;</p><p>There is a strong culture of providing newly appointed staff the necessary support and freedom to develop their academic careers. &nbsp;</p><p>We would like you to have the future ambition to take on leadership roles within and/or outside the Department at an appropriate stage in your career. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>Additional information</strong></p><p id="isPasted">This is a full-time, fixed-term position expected to end in September 2028.</p><p>As part of the selection process, you will normally be required to give a presentation to academic staff in the Department before being shortlisted for formal interview.</p><p>Informal enquiries about the post may be made to either:</p><ul type="disc"><li>Professor Patrick Keogh, Head of Department, Department of Mechanical Engineering, <a href="mailto:enspsk@bath.ac.uk" target="_blank">enspsk@bath.ac.uk</a> &nbsp;</li><li>Dr Anna Young, Department of Mechanical Engineering, <a href="mailto:amy32@bath.ac.uk" target="_blank">amy32@bath.ac.uk</a> &nbsp;</li></ul><p>We consider ourselves to be a university where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged.
