Description: Aims:
To provide an introduction to transport planning.

Learning Outcomes:
The successful student will be able to demonstrate:
* an understanding of the basic principles of transport planning;
* knowledge of the principal methods used;
* an appreciation of the ways in which transport projects may be evaluated.

Skills:
Understanding and appreciation of the context and processes of transport planning.

Content:
The nature and purpose of transport planning: Demand and supply, nodes, relationship to land use, sustainable development. The administrative framework in the UK.
The planning process: economic concepts, trip generation, trip distribution, modal split, network buildig, trip assignment. Generalised cose, data collection, forecasting techniques. Principles of network design.
Introduction to appraisal and evaluation.
