Description: Aims:
The aims of this unit are to:
* explain the performance advantage of appropriate tyre construction and selection;
* illustrate the importance of data acquisition, and recording, to optimise tyre performance.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit the student should be able to:
* select a tyre from available options to optimise vehicle performance;
* understand the vehicle set up requirements for a variety of tyre designs and compounds;
* record tyre performance data;
* use data from driver and on board data acquisition equipment to optimise tyre performance;
* interpret national and international regulations with regard to tyre eligibility.

During the unit students should gain the following skills:
Intellectual:
* interpreting data (T,A)
* rationalising tyre strategy (T,F)

* making choices within given constraints (F,A)
* being aware of budget limitations which may impact on tyre use (T,F)

This unit concentrates on:
* competition tyre construction;
* performance road vehicle tyre construction;
* compounds;
* tread design;
* tyre construction;
* tyre logistics;
* temperatures and pressures;
* aspect ratios;
* tyre eligibility.
