Description: | Aims: To show how the skills of chemists and engineers must be used to develop complete industrial catalytic processes; to show relation of the good industrial design to fundamental principles of chemistry and engineering; to provide up-to-date information on some key industrial processes. Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit students should be able to: Understand the development route to a complete industrial process from fundamental chemistry selection to process optimisation and economics. Use optimisation tools for analysis of chemical kinetics and of processes. Skills: Interdisciplinary skills in catalytic process development; Numerical simulation and process optimisation. Content: Fundamentals of catalytic processes; Kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic processes; Multiphase catalytic processes; Process models; Process Economics; Industrial Case Studies. |
