Description: Aims:
To identify key events in the developments of culture since the advent of democracy; to explore the work of authors that have played a significant role in that development; to examine narrative strategies of modern literature and film; to understand the development of women's writing in Spain.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
* recognize and articulate the significance of the authors and works studied.
* identify the links between socio-political context and cultural expression.
* develop appropriate reading strategies for dramatic and cinematic texts.

Skills:
Skills in critical analysis, conceptual thinking, precision in the use of written and spoken language, exercise of independent judgement, reasoned argument, effective communication in the target language and the planning/conduct/reporting of non-quantitative research are taught and assessed in this unit. Skills in effective learning are developed in this unit.

Content:
The development of theatre and film during the democratic transition, through the Socialist period and up to the present. We will explore the differences between dramatic and cinematic languages, and the emergence of women playwrights. The unit is taught in Spanish.
