Description:
Aims & Learning Objectives:
To introduce students to the fields of psychology that relate to sport performance and exercise participation. On completion of this unit students will be able to: Discuss the nature and measurement of personality in the context of sport and exercise; and identify the key psychological concepts of sport performance and exercise participation.

Content:
Fields of psychology: Introduction to cognitive and developmental psychology to sport and exercise;
Personality and trait theories: Personality theory; socialisation theory; interactionist approach to sport and exercise;
Concepts of Sport and exercise psychology: anxiety, stress & arousal; self confidence & self esteem; attention & concentration; motivation.
