Description: Aims:
The course will enable the student to provide informed advice on the major aspects of pay, rewards and performance management, based on a sound understanding of relevant theories and research evidence.

Learning Outcomes:
On completing this unit students will be able to:
* Display an understanding of key reward concepts;
* Evaluate the alignment of a reward system with strategic objectives.

Skills:
* The ability to analyse the fit between reward systems and company strategies; T/F/A
* A critical awareness of current issues surrounding reward systems; T/A
* The ability to acquire and analyse data, information and situations; to evaluate relevance and validity, and to synthesise it in the context of topical business problems; T/A
* Facility to apply subject-specific knowledge into a range of situations T/A

Content:
The role of reward strategy in an organisation is considered through the lens of appropriate academic theories. The use of pay systems to influence the behaviour of managerial and non-managerial employees. The appropriate use of different types of pay and benefits. The pay of top executives. Institutional complementarities between reward systems and other institutions.
