Aims: To give each student experience in the study of biological information and in its written and verbal presentation.
To introduce protein and nucleotide databases and their use.
Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* make appropriate use of many forms of biological publication
* carry out detailed searches for information using suitable tools and databases
* write and word-process a substantial in depth essay on a biological topic, with appropriately listed references to published literature.
* use database search tools to explore nucleotide and protein data for relevant information.

Content:
The course consists of a series of small group sessions with a lecturer and about 6-8 students. There will also be bioinformatics workshops.
