In taking this unit you cannot take BB40085 or take BB40102 or take BB40124 and before taking this unit you must take BB10005 and take BB10006 and take BB20024 and take BB20025 and take BB20149 and take BB30055
or you must have taken suitable degree units from another university. Aims: To provide an understanding of the exciting new advances in Gene regulation and eukaryotic cell differentiation.
Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* Explain modulation of gene expression at various levels.
* Explain the molecular basis of the coordinated regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation.
* Explain the molecular and biochemical basis of cell differentiation and lineage commitment.

Content:
This will be a student seminar and discussion course.
The topics include regulation of gene expression in differentiation, chromatin remodelling, transcription factors, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation and acetylation and deacetylation, in regulating gene expression, post-transcriptional control and function of microRNAs.
