BB40141 Molecular biology of microbial adaptation

Credits: 6
Level: Masters
Semester: 2
Assessment: CW 100%
Requisites:
Before taking this unit you must take BB10006

Aims & Learning Objectives:
To demonstrate to students how novel molecular tools can be used to address questions central to the behaviour of microbial life.
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* describe central examples of microbial behaviour and relate this to the molecular mechanisms involved. Examples such as symbiosis and pathogenicity involving bacteria, plants, animals and fungi and explain the impact that molecular biology has had on these areas of study.
Content:
Possible topics include: changes in pathogen host range, plant-microbe symbiosis, animal-microbe symbiosis and inter-microbial competition and cooperation.
