Aims: To introduce the student to the methods and practice of research in an educational context.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
* Have an understanding of how the academy and the peer-review process works.
* Appreciate the various theoretical lenses used in the sport sciences.
* Understand the origins of social science research and the various schools of thought.

Content:
This unit will introduce students to the background and principles of social science research. It will introduce students to the process of peer review and basic operations of the academy as well as highlighting the major schools of critical academic thought; thus, helping students appreciate the diversity of theoretical considerations in contemporary sport science research.
