Aims: The theoretical background in which the unit is set is represented by International Relations and International Political Economy. International relations theories will be analysed and explained, and then applied to assess the consequences of globalisation on a range of issues. These range from social movements and NGOs, to environmental issues, and to migration and the new global division of labour. The unit aims:
* to provide an overview of theoretical approaches to international relations and global politics; * to assess the meaning and implications of globalisation; * to explore case studies exemplifying the outcomes of globalisation. Learning Outcomes: Students successfully completing this unit will have achieved the following: 1. an understanding of different theoretical approaches to International relations and global politics; 2. a knowledge and understanding of globalisation and its different definitions; 3. a more in-depth knowledge of a specific issue area within global politics. Skills: Students will be able to enhance their presentational skills through the coursework requirements and feedback on their performance. In addition, students will be able to enhance their ability to analyse the contemporary debate in IR/IPE, including the ability to compare and evaluate competing explanations for international relations and global politics issues.
