Aims & Learning Objectives: Demonstrate the practical application of theoretical knowledge of rheumatology in the primary care setting. After completing this unit the student should be able to: Take a history and conduct a clinical examination of a patient presenting with a musculoskeletal disorder. Assess the situations in which steroid injections should be administered, to identify the site of injection and the method of administration of these injections to the key sites of the upper and lower limbs. Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients in eliciting symptoms, and imparting advice and complex information regarding the management of rheumatic disease. Content: Attendance at one of each of three residential group teaching sessions provides: * Examination skills of Upper Limb; * Examination skills of Lower Limb; * Examination skills of the Spine; * Teaching with patients; * Injection techniques. |
