Aims: To provide further opportunities to develop practice experience and clinical examination skills, to acquire learning through clinical assessment and work-based experience and to study the running of a well-organised clinic. This is a natural progression from Rheumatology in Practice I allowing students to continue to apply knowledge and skills to their practice setting as they specialise further in the programme.
Learning Outcomes:

After taking this unit the student should be able to:
* apply knowledge and understanding of rheumatology to specific practice in primary care
* review recent developments in rheumatology
These learning outcomes will be taught and assessed.
Skills:
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
* demonstrate enhanced practical skills relevant to the practice of primary care rheumatology
* develop further skills in examination techniques appropriate to rheumatology in a primary care setting
* chose appropriate radiological and laboratory investigations in a primary care setting determined by clinical assessment
* plan and manage their learning through reflecting on and analysing their own learning needs.
* integrate and critically evaluate information gathered from a wide range of resources including the unit resources, text books, journal articles, web pages and other online resources. An appreciation for a hierarchy of evidence should be displayed.

These learning outcomes will be facilitated and some may be assessed.
Content:
This Unit enables the practical application of theoretical knowledge of primary care rheumatology in a healthcare setting and is taken concurrently with the study of the other sequential units. Study activities within Rheumatology in Practice I will be scheduled to correspond to study in other units and reflect the increasing knowledge and expertise gained over time. Rheumatology in Practice develops practitioner-based skills delivered through work-based experiences, online case-based discussions and face-to-face courses, to include consideration and application of two of the following, not previously covered in Unit 3:
* history taking and clinical examination skills of Upper Limb
* history taking and clinical examination skills of Lower Limb
* history taking and clinical examination skills of the Spine
* teaching with patients.
